What Is a Root Canal?
A root canal refers to the inner space of a tooth that contains soft tissue known as pulp. This area includes nerves and blood vessels, and when it becomes infected or damaged, it can lead to serious issues such as pain, swelling, and even bone loss around the tooth.

Signs You May Need Root Canal Treatment
You may benefit from a root canal if you experience any of the following:
- Persistent or severe tooth pain while eating or biting
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
- Swollen or tender gums
- Darkening or discoloration of a tooth
- A chipped or cracked tooth
- A recurring bump or pimple on the gums
How Root Canal Treatment Works
Most root canal procedures are completed in about 60–90 minutes, depending on the condition of the tooth.
Step 1:
The dentist examines the affected tooth and numbs the area to ensure your comfort.
Step 2:
A small opening is created to remove the infected pulp and thoroughly clean the inner canals.
Step 3:
The cleaned canals are shaped and sealed to prevent future infection. A temporary filling may be placed.
Step 4:
A dental crown or final restoration is added to protect the tooth and restore full function.
